The
Department of Governmental Services
The
Department of Governmental Services assists member governments in
developing community and economic development projects that bring
essential services and jobs to the Northwest Alabama region. The staff
receives requests concerning community or economic development needs and
seeks available resources to meet these needs. The department during
this fiscal year has submitted 33 applications that are under
consideration for funding totaling over $12,000,000.00. NACOLG's
Governmental Services Department write and administer grants which
address a wide variety of needs including: water, sewer, housing
rehabilitation, industrial expansion, streets, drainage facilities,
recreation, fire protection, as well as community/senior centers. This
department assists member governments throughout all phases of a
project -- from planning and development to construction and close-out.
In order to
meet the needs of the member governments, the Department of
Governmental Services works cooperatively with many different agencies
including: Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs,
Appalachian Regional Commission, Economic Development Administration,
Rural Development, The Department of Housing and Urban Development,
Environmental Protection Agency, Alabama Department of Environmental
Management and the Alabama Historical Commission.
The
department is responsible for coordinating and administering both
NACOLG's EDA Development District, and the ARC Local Development
District which provide a host of planning, community and economic
development opportunities for the region.
